ABOUT

African Spaces and Stories

A study in presence, Stone & Sahara is an ode to the African continent’s tangible cultural heritage—its built landscapes, storied artifacts, and the spaces where history and artistry meet.

At Stone & Sahara, we explore the architecture, landscapes, art, and artifacts that shape Africa’s cultural heritage. Our focus is on the tangible—historic buildings, works of art, architecture, libraries, archives, museums, ancient sites, artifacts, and the spaces where history lingers. We believe that spaces and objects are more than remnants of the past - they carry stories, traditions, and identities that shape the present and inspire the future.

We are drawn to the details—a weathered wooden door in Zanzibar, the symmetry of a centuries-old mosque in Mali, the interplay of shadow and texture in an ancient monument in Ethiopia. These spaces and stories hold more than history; they carry the memory of those who made them, passed through them, and left their mark.

Our lens is slow, intentional, and deeply attuned to the spirit of place. We believe in slow travel—immersing oneself in a place, taking the time to understand its essence, and connecting deeply with its people, heritage, and artistry.

We bring these spaces and stories to life through our city guides, journal, postcards from…, and curated studio, offering a sophisticated perspective on Africa’s architectural and artistic legacy. We engage in a dialogue between past and present, celebrating craftsmanship, design, and the narratives embedded in Africa’s physical and creative landscapes.

At its core, Stone & Sahara is a meditation on beauty, belonging, and legacy. It is an invitation to look closer, linger longer, move slower, and see the continent of Africa not just as a destination but as a living archive of creativity and tradition.

Stone and Sahara is a cultural lifestyle and slow travel brand focused on the African continent. It was founded by writer, artist, researcher, and collector Lynette Sifiso.
